My Recording Technique

Cameras

My early videos had two JVC HD Everio 3D Cameras that I use for recording my videos. This allows me to have different angles of me playing which adds interest in the videos. Also, as the cameras may be operated by a single Remote Control, I can stay seated and start and stop recording of both cameras simultaneously.

My later videos use two Samsung phones. A Galaxy S5 and S7.

Line 6 Relay G10

My Wireless transmitter/Receiver allows me to play without a cable in the guitar. This gives me freedom of movement up to 30 Meters way from the receiver. The transmitter is fitted to my guitar, and the receiver is plugged into my AX3000G.

AX3000G Modelling Signal Processor

The AX3000G does all the Amp modelling, Compression, Delay effects, tremolo or Reverb effects that I need. So the signal leaving the pedal requires no further processing by the computer. The AX3000G is plugged directly into my Focusrite Audio Interface. Pictures here.. Advice, settings and links here.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 Audio Interface.

I use a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 audio interface which ensures a consistent quality recorded result, not dependent of the sound card of the computer being used. The 2i4 connects to my computer via a USB connection, and the output from the 2i4 can be connected to an amplifier if required. I tend to use Earbud headphones to monitor the recording.

Audacity

I use Audacity (Free Software) in the computer to play the backing track and simultaneously record my guitar.

This also allows me to make simple volume changes where necessary to the recording.

Power Director

To create the video, I use Cyberlink Power Director Version 17. This enables me to combine the two video recordings and the Audio recording into one final video. I can also add effects to the video, like zooming in on the guitar and giving the effect of motion.

Chroma Key (Green Screen)

Where I want to have a different background in my videos I use a green screen (Around £20 from Amazon.) Power Director allows me to change the colour green to be transparent, enabling any background that I place behind me to show through.

I hope this helps understanding what I am doing with my recordings. Demo here.
